reversing bleepers

was thinking about putting some on the getz, no idea what type is the best or "the right price". there is an abundance of them on ebay - any body "done it themself"

"Reversing Bleepers"

Like the ones that lorry drivers and buses have when they reverse, to let those behind know they're backing up?

Jeebers, how big is your getz yikes yikes

Re: reversing bleepers

Easy to do Watto did it himself by just following the instructions (look on the Tucson page) I have them and watched as the guys did mine and apart from the fact that they took off the back bumper and had to drill holes in it the rest was straight forward or so it seemed.
Cost was £35 on Ebay

I did have the garage supply my first Tuc with them at a cost of £199 now that was a bit expensive.

Its up to you diy or pro-fit depends how much you have in the bank really.

Cheers

Re: reversing bleepers

I think I'd be tempted to go for the one that has two sensors in a bracket which holds the number plate.

Seems less intrusive - the only problem being there's only 2 sensors, so it can't work as well as the 4-sensor set ups.

EDIT:  I just realised that they are £90!  Ouch.

I've ordered a cheap 4-sensor set for the wife's Civic.  They should arrive tomorrow, so if it will stop raining for a couple of hours I might get them fitted over the weekend.

I'll let you all know if they're any good...

Re: reversing bleepers

I fitted  "taurus" sensors to mine, nothing is visible from the outside, as it is simply a metallica tape on the inside of the bumper, cost was about £80 and I can thourougly recommend them, easy to fit (as long as you can reove the bumper) on my MG ztt.

Well, I finally got round to fitting them yesterday.  Pretty straightforward job on the wife's car.  I didn't have to take the bumper off, as there is plenty of clearance behind it.  It is a bit unnerving making 21mm holes in the bumper though.  As they say, measure twice, cut once.  I put the buzzer under the trim at the front end of the boot, and the rest of the gubbins got stuffed down under the rear light cluster, again behind the trim piece.

Only cost me £21 Incl p&p from an Ebay supplier, and they seem to work fine.  The place I got them from does them in a choice of colours too, if this is a consideration for you.

Re: reversing bleepers

Thinking of fitting reversing sensors on my i10.
Had a look at the underside of the rear bumper and there is a nice long flat stretch at the bottom of it.
This seems ideal for an invisible electomagnetic sensor aerial tape which doesn't require any drilling.
Not overkeen to fit infra red ones which require bumper drilling....I wonder if the car ever required repair in its first 5 years, whether Hyundia might try to back out of it if they saw the holes in the rear bumper?
How much DIY work is allowed under a 5 year warranty?

Re: reversing bleepers

Don't fit the sensors or tape to low it-they may pick up the road surface causing a false reading  especially reversing up a slope, bin there wore the jumper!!!  sunset red I might add!

Gazza!!!

Re: reversing bleepers

If you look on the Hyundai website, it shows an i10 with the reversing sensors set into the black insert in the bumper, so I thought I would put mine on the same.  They would almost look dealer-fitted in that case.

I had a closer look and it looks like the bumper will have to come off to do it, which is a bit risky.  The black insert seems to be screwed to the rest of the bumper with the screws only accessible from the inside, of course.  Still, I'd rather pay £21 than £130 plus fitting for the dealer to do the job.

If/when I decide to have a go at it, I'll let you know.

Anyway, the good news is I've borrowed the wife's car today and the cheapo sensors seem to work fine.  The bad news is, she's got my i10 sad

Re: reversing bleepers

Not so long a go when I had my corsa i was waiting out side the local supermarket (try to avoid going in at all cost). When the good wife came out of the supermarket and got in to the car I put the car into reverse, someone had installed a lamp post behind me while waiting for the wife LOL. Reversed straight into it. I was so embarrassed I did not get to look at the damage until I got home.

Perhaps I should look in to some sensors or just use my rear view mirror.

Mick

Re: reversing bleepers

Hi all.
I purchased mine in a silver metallic finish, this was not close enough to the aqua silver, so a few quid at halfords provided a spray tin of colour matched paint.

You will need to remove the old paint first using some 600grit emery cloth (very fine) and then apply just a few light coats of spray paint (do not brush as this is too thick and will interfer with the ultrasonics).

Jobs a goodun, colour keyed sensors, looks like OEM.

Re: reversing bleepers

Hey Watto did you spray them with plastic spray first? If not they may change colour or it could peel off!

Re: reversing bleepers

Itza, hi.
I did not use the plastic parts primer, it is to thick and would interfer with the sensors. 5 months have past since I spray painted them and there is no sign of deteriation so far. I did not laquer them either.  I will take some piccies if it stops raining.

I havent fitted the front ones yet, my other half just tuts at me everytime I start planning to do something to the Tucson, should have seen her face when the sill covers arrived from hong kong, she thinks I am made or is it sad.

I dared not tell her about the tuning box.  I have orderd a load of printing/photographic stuff from tinternet hoping that the package from germany wont be noticed.

Re: reversing bleepers

You probably have fitted them by now, but I have only just joined the club. I have just fitted a set on my Tucson. I got them from Maplins £30, 4 sensors and the control unit which contains a 3 digit display which gives distance from 2.00 metres down to zero as well as the successive bleeps, seems to work ok, the kit comes with a hole cutter as well. I have also fitted a mod which when the Caravan is attached and plugged in disables the device so stopping false alarms when reversing with the caravan hitched up.
