Title: Autonomous emergency braking, how does it work
Post by: Bluetaurus on October 04, 2019, 13:06:18
Hi all
As the title, I've crept up fairly close to the car in front to test this and not felt the car braking or anything.
Is there a " on/off" switch I may have pressed by accident.
If not what should I expect from this advanced feature.

Thanks
John

I wouldn't be surprised if it only works above a certain speed so as not to be a pain in the a***e when parking.

Hi kona
That's a fair point, not sure how I'm meant to know if it works then .

Hope you never get into a situation where you need to find out. ;)

Joking aside i would imagine there would be a warning light telling you it wasn't working if indeed it was not or had been disabled by accident.

I find that if a vehicle in front brakes hard in front of me or turns off to the right or left still braking suddenly, my car starts to give loud dashboard beeps,by the time that happens I find that I'm already braking, I guess If I'm not paying attention some day in the future, the brakes will apply???. I've had three hyundais with this system and they all do the same. :/

Gazza!!!

Thanks guys
I will look through the manual to see how it works, online it shows the car braking hard to a stop to avoid collision.

Jump to 22 seconds as the first bit is ******* annoying.

At 55 seconds he says as long as its over 10 KPH.

Do you have AEB checked in the settings (see 1:00 in the video)

Hi all
No good, I cant even find AEB in the settings, I found forward collision avoidance,  something different I understand. Have no idea how to find AEB though, nor what the mode button does.

Surely forward collision avoidance is the same thing, why not take a cardboard box to a quiet car park and try to drive into it at over 10 kmh.

Yes good shout, I'm at work tonight, if I get time I might give it a go.
Plus have a read of the manual!
Cheers

There’s forward collision warning. An audible and visual warning you get when the closing gap to the vehicle is shrinking too quickly for your speed. I find it a bit oversensitive.
I’ve also had the adaptive cruise control warn me of a stationary vehicle ahead.
Then there’s AEB when the car takes over and brakes for you. It’s designed to be brutally uncomfortable so no one is tempted to try it. Having activated it once it probably saved my day.

Don’t expect driving towards a cardboard box to trigger it. It didn’t in my wife’s Mazda.

Thanks for that,
I thought there must be difference between  the two.
So I guess I will only find out if it works in a real emergency.
Is there a setting for it, if so where is it please.
Cheers

Hi all
Been through all the settings(I think anyway) and cant see anything about autonomous emergency  braking.
I'm assuming I have it.
Might scan the manual to see if there is a section on it.

I’ve got a driving assistance sub menu on the small screen between rev counter and speedo on my Santa Fe.  I’ll scroll through it and see if it is listed. I wouldn’t ever want to turn it off.

In some weather conditions it cannot function. It can’t measure the distance to what’s ahead.  Mine won’t work in heavy snow, and I get a warning when it’s not functioning. The warning clears when the snow stops.

I've scanned the manual and cant find it under AEB, seems to be under forward collision avoidance. Surprising as they advertise AEB and use the wording autonomous emergency braking  in there spec sheets.

I’ve got a menu that can switch AEB and FCW.
My car is a 2016 Santa Fe Premium SE, with the convenience option pack. What are you driving?
