Title: Hyundai UK..Fact or fiction?
Post by: paully on November 26, 2019, 15:11:44
Long story short..My i40 has developed a crack in the plastic covering over the instrument panel. The supplying dealer says its a stress fracture and they only cover them for 6 months. Or in reality` Its a fiddly job worth diddlysquat at warranty rates`...

Escalated it to Hyundai UK who took a different view. They spoke to the dealership/got fobbed off (delete as applicable) and told me they stand by the dealer and cannot do anything..Hmm I then asked to speak to a manager in the UK warranty team to be told they do not actually have one..All dealers are autonomous and make their own decisions re warranty claims not Hyundai.....They told me to take it to another dealer and if they ok the repair Hyundai will pay..what??

Now this is the season of make belief but I think this is stretching it a bit far. Anybody else got experience/views on this please...If so and there is no one to appeal to after the dealer, most of whom are less than stellar and Kia no better, then next time it wont be a Hyundai. First and last..

     what do you think?

Manufacturing problem should be covered under warranty i would have thought. HAve you got another dealer local to try?

Thats my view, as is my son`s who is an I Mech E, so I`ve gone to another dealer who has agreed to photograph it and send it to the Hyundai Audit team for their opinion..No mention of 6 months limit at the second dealer by the way. Seems Hyundai allow their dealers a lot of leeway on warranties but audit what they do very closely, hence being wary from the start on issues like this..

Honestly I`m not suprised Hyundai sales have slumped over 8% in the last year, I`m sure their dealerships must play a large part in it.

It does sound like you are being fobbed off. Have you read through the warranty document to check if they are right to turn you down? I always get the impression that dealer personnel treat all the customers as though they are totally without any technical knowledge.

I've just had my I10 windscreen approved for warranty renewal - see the photo on my post. This went through without any resistance at all on a car that's nearly 5 years old. The dealer told me that they had to send photos away to Hyundai for approval, so it seems the dealer was unable to make the call.

thanks for that, I have been through the terms of the warranty with a toothcomb and they make nio mention/claim to restrictions in such matters. It is plainly a defect in manufacture and therefore a warranty claim. It is now booked into the Huddersfield dealership next Wednesday for their attention, the Wakefield one being where I bought it from.

UPDATE

Hyundai warranty audit team were sent pictures and have heard back from them today that they agree the plastic fracture is a warranty claim and the car is being booked in next week to be remedied..

Full marks, on this occasion, to the Huddersfield dealer whilst `Null Point `to their Wakefield counterparts who werent even good at fobbing off..Not many points either for Hyundai whose customer service this time was useless and their best offering was `Take it to another dealer`..

No wonder the new car trade has a poor reputation.........its largely self inflicted
