Petrol tucson really poor fuel economy, is yours as bad?
« on: December 06, 2019, 18:23:55 »
Hey all.
So my brand new Tucson N line has clocked up just over 1200 miles.
According to the digital readout I'm averaging 26mpg from new.
Now I mainly drive in  stop start traffic as I work in london. My 50 minute 9 mile journey returns just 20/21 mpg!! Yes that's not a typo.
In the mornings with no traffic the same journey returns 30mpg.
The car drives superb and I love it, but is that mpg a fair average of what other petrol owners get from their Tucsons?

Not sure what consumption you regard as acceptable - those conditions are about the worst possible.

True,
But I've had a few cars in the 23 years I've been doing the journey, and that's by far the worst.
I was expecting mid 20's in traffic I guess.
But it is what it is, I read plenty of reviews and understood that the tucson was not great on economy.
Just curious if anyone has experienced similar mpg on a 2019 model.

Just wondering why you chose a Tucson N-line to do your urban travel?

Hi
I love the look of it to be honest, I needed a car that could accommodate 2 dogs, wanted an suv.
I knew the fuel economy wasnt the best, but I do smile when behind the wheel, and it is a very nice ride.
Just curious if other petrol owners get similar mpg.

I've found my Kona's digital read out is about 5 mpg less than the true figures. Car says it's averaging 37.6 when in fact doing it the old fashioned way of filling up dividing the litres into gallons and dividing the miles by the gallons it's actually 42.5. Only done 1500 miles but it's improving slightly every fill up.

That's interesting egg,
I must admit, the fuel gauge does not seem to move alarmingly so the digital side of things could be under estimating.
I'm due a fill up today so might just try the traditional way.

I moved from a 1.6 petrol Qashqai to the 1.6 petrol Tucson. The fuel consumption calculated by the Qashqai computer averaged around 32 when it was new, and around 38 when I sold it four years later.

The computer in my Tucson currently shows low 20s for my commute in to work. My commute home gives higher mpg - about 26. On a long motorway journey I can squeeze it into the mid to upper 30s if I poodle along below 60mph. Have briefly seen it above 40mpg! The Qashqai *could* claim over 50mpg on a motorway run (starting with a warm engine!).

Having said all that, I cannot notice any difference in the amount of petrol I am using.

I think the Tucson is a much more 'real world' figure.

Hi
Sounds pretty similar mpg to mine then. To be fair the petrol gauge does not move alarmingly.

Hi,I have a 2018 Tucson 1.6 T- gdi GO DCT, only had it week,I do a 5.5 mile commute, takes 15mins in the morning,25 mins at night, according to the display when you turn the engine off,its averaging 29.9 mpg. I put £30 of petrol in on Sat,approx 5.5 gallons, and that gave me a range of @209 miles,so by my reckoning, the readings dont tally,is it 29.9mpg going by the economy reading or 36.5mpg going from the maths. Time will tell..........

That's very good mpg you know.
I'll see if mine improves as the engine gets more miles on it.

Me again, just to let you know,I managed 151 miles on £30 of petrol, before the fuel light came on,@29-30 mpg. Quite happy with that, its about what I expected.

That's not bad at all.
My mpg is probably not helped by the 20mph speed limits on most of my journey to and from work

Just did my first ever brim to brim test and the mpg worked out at 23.8
I guess about right for speed limits and often heavy traffic in london.

Think I'll stop moaning about my 41 MPG around town. 23.8 I think that's woeful.
