Hyundai crowned Carmaker of the Year in annual AM awards

The second time in three years for Hyundai Motor UK Ltd

Hyundai has, for the second time in three years, been named as Carmaker of the Year at the annual AM Magazine Awards ceremony which took place last night.

The independent judging panel, led by AM’s Editor Jeremy Bennett, chose Hyundai over shortlisted rivals such as Land Rover and Skoda. The judges highlighted the brand’s sustained growth in sales, its line-up of well-designed and generously equipped new models, and its range-spanning five-year warranty, as all helping to put the brand increasingly on both customers’ and dealers’ wish-lists.

Jeremy Bennett said: “Hyundai won this award back in 2010 and it is a testament to its continued progress to win it twice - only the second time any manufacturer has done so. The carmaker continues to grow and we would like to congratulate it on its achievements.

“Having overtaken many of its more established peers, Hyundai is, undeniably, now an established mainstream brand. Other volume manufacturers take note – Hyundai is a carmaker whose rise will be hard to contain.”

Tony Whitehorn, Hyundai UK President and CEO, said: “Receiving this award is a testament to how rapidly we have progressed as a manufacturer and the positive strides we have made in the UK car industry. The launch of new and exciting products such as i40, Veloster and the New Generation i30 has signalled a step-change in terms of the quality of our products and there’s more exciting products still to come in the remainder of 2012.

“This is our fifth industry award in just three years having been named as Car Franchise of the Year in 2010 and 2011 in the Motor Trader Awards as well as Best Car Manufacturer in last year’s Which? Awards. This is a highly prestigious award and it is due to the hard work and professionalism of our team here in the UK and to our strong dealer network.”

Alongside  the Carmaker of the Year award, Hyundai was also nominated in the New Car of the Yearcategory for the stylish i40, which boasts fuel economy 65.7mpg and CO2 emissions from just 113g/km, plus the lowest BiK tax in its class.
