Is this an age thing, those of us that drove on tungsten sealed beam lights don't have problems, the new halogen lights are sufficient for the speed limits today. However the optimum light is a round parabolic reflector, narrow lights compromise distance and illumination without blinding oncoming traffic, it's the wrong shape for the sake of style.

Thank you for your reply.  I don't think it is an age thing; although I am 63 I have good corrected eyesight.  The headlight on my Kawasaki Versys 1000 motorbike is better than my Hyundi!  I think it is a manufacturer's problem.  Older Hyundis have H4 halogen lights and are perfectly satisfactory.  The problem seems to be with the HRI2 bulbs.

Does anybody know of a brighter replacement?

The Phillips longer life bulb claims to be better, but I can't find an option that claims to be significantly brighter.

LED replacement headlight bulbs (CE approved) are coming to the market so I'd keep checking.

There aren't any upgrade bulbs available in the HIR2 fitting. However, HB4 bulbs are available in upgrade versions (eg Osram Nightbreaker Unlimited), and these will fit in place of the HIR2 bulbs if one trims the one plastic tab on the casing.
