Title: Tyre advice i30
Post by: cityfan247 on February 23, 2018, 11:19:14
Hi all

I have just bought a year old i30 (1.6 CRDI blue drive SE) and I am very happy with it. Tbh i don't know why I haven't owned a Hyundai before.

I was wondering what tyres you guys would recommend?

It currently has the OEM fitted Hankook EcoKinergy 425. They have a bit of life left in them but will likely need to change them later in the year. The Hankook's are good. In fact I bought some Hankook Ventus Prime 3 for my last car (Focus).

I had bought those as they were a good £20 cheaper each compared to the premium Contis, Pirelli, Goodyear , Michelin etc which were over £100. For me the small difference in performance of good mid range tyres compared to the price of premium brands was worth sacrificing.

The wheel size is smaller on the Hyundai however 195/65/15 91 H.

Thus there is no great difference price wise between the Kumho/Hankook/Toyos/Falken of the tyre world compared to the 'big boys'. I can have my pick of most of them for between £50 and £60.

I want good overall dry/wet performance, quiet with good durability and decent fuel economy.

I know tyre reviews are not always subjective and looking at sites like tyrereviews.com what one person likes another doesn't. But I am interested in what other Hyundai drivers recommend or dislike.

thanks for any insights

Thanks Phil

The Conti's do get consistently good reviews.

I have the Dunlops on my shortlist. Can get them for £56 fitted.

I've had 2 i30 CRDi's (still have one) and got a i30Turbo. I've used the Hankooks 425's for both my CRDi's and Prime venture 2's for my turbo. They Hankooks are a good tyres grip the road and work well in the wet. Mileage isn't great would normally get around 16K on fronts and 28K on rears, although on the i30Turbo changed my first tyres at 12K but it's a sporty hatch and I do drive it with a bit of spirit  :D
I was paying £112 pair of 425's from www.event-tyres.co.uk (http://www.event-tyres.co.uk)  so the 16K was pretty good on balance.

Cheers Sean

Like i said the Hankooks are fine and I may get new ones when due to change.

I suppose at the moment my shortlist is

Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance
Pirelli Cinturato P1 Verde
Hankook EcoKinergy K425
Falken Ziex 914 Ecorun
Dunlop BlueResponse
Kumho Ecsta HS51

these are virtually all the same price approx £55 each or so

or the slightly more expensive (about a fiver more)
Continental Premium Contact 5

I had considered the cheaper
Toyo Proxes CF2 at under £50 but as I said I can get a premium brand for very little extra £££

I've just bought new tyres for my car.

had hankook eco same make/size as yours and replaced with Davanti brand tyre.

must say for an unknown name to me they are performing well in the wet and dry.

well worth a look

they are rated A for wet grip and 67db for noise.

Hi Cityfan247,

The Goodyear are A wet and B fuel, I looked at these for my i30Turbo but got a good deal on the Hankooks so stayed with them. The Toyo's are proper race tyres grip is fantastic but wet grip is poor and miles are low on these some of my friends use them on their sporty cars.

Not familiar with Davanti. But looks interesting.

If i was looking for tyres for my old car, the Focus, they would likely have been worth having a real look at them. The savings would have been attractive. But as i said with the 195 65 15 91H the difference in cost is minimal so i will likely stick with brands I know. Appreciate the tip though so many thanks.

All of the tyres on my list are good all round tyres. But reviews do say the Toyos maybe aren't top in terms of wear. As i try to narrow my choice I am maybe leaning towards the Goodyear, Dunlop and Hankook. I have bought all 3 brands before and never been unhappy with any of them. Never had Kumhos or Pirellis or Falkens.
