Hi. I own a 2012 Santa Fe 2.2 7 seater. Had it for around 3 months now. I was doing some pre MOT checks and noticed that the front left was low on tread. I'll do proper replacement of tyres per winter so thought I'd just out the quite new full size spare the dealer said we had.
Swapped it over and saw this on it. It had a yellow chalk (I think) X over it. I drove round the block after the swap to listen for rattles so the X has faded. What is this and is my tyre safe?

It looks as though it has been punctured and that is the end of the plug/patch X marks the position of the hole after finding it :)

If you are looking at tyre options for winter, I've found the Nokian Weatherproof SUV terrific.
It's a winter rated all season. Been to Avoriaz in Winter and Spain in Summer, no abnormal wear and plenty of grip.
