Title: 2012 Santa Fe Premium - persistent wheel corrosion
Post by: Grey Fe on September 08, 2016, 21:45:14
I have had this car since new and it has had 3 sets of wheels already because of corrosion. The current set are starting to go as well. The warranty has been honoured but I need a longer term fix for when it exits the warranty next spring as I want to keep the car for a few more years.
The wheels are very nice, suit the car and I guess I could get them painted, but probably only a single colour (current ones are I think diamond cut and contrasting?).
Anyone with the same problem found an answer?

How about a couple of coats of clear lacquer?

I think diamond cut wheels always need regular refurbishment.

My diamond cut VW Touran wheels got a bit knackered after 7-8 years - tyres were not sealing well after tyre changes.

In the end I got them repainted - ignored the diamond cut and just had them fully painted. They look fine - I cannot see the difference, unless I actually look hard at them.

But if looks are important, I would go for lacquer. I cannot see why they are failing 3 times in what, 5 year warranty period? That's not normal - unless you live somewhere with harsh conditions like near the sea?
