Title: Best after market anti keyless theft device?
Post by: Bluetaurus on September 25, 2019, 11:43:35
Hi all
So I take delivery of my new N line Tucson very soon.
I am wary however of keyless theft crime, especially as my next door neighbour had his Mercedes E class stolen from his drive a few weeks back.
Now I have purchased 2 key pouches, and a metal key safe to put them both in.
I was looking for a visual deterrent like one of those steering wheel to dashboard club things.
Anyone use one and can perhaps recommend  one that does not mark the wheel and is a good fit for the tucson?
Thanks
John

If you are going to those lengths to protect your car i wouldn't worry but if you want peace of mind but don't want to spend silly money this may do the job -

Hi Kona
Thank you.
The signal blocking bags the keys are in seem to work.

The bags work really well if they are earthed.

You put your keys in the bag and put it in your pocket I have never read a review that says they need to be earthed, why and how would you do that?

I have bought 2 Faraday pouches but find them tight when depositing the fob with attached door key + plastic store cards.
So, when in the house been told to test most tins with a lid and in particular John Paul Gaultter (which I have) works fine. Got to test it shortly.

Hiya
I have the pouches and a metal key safe to put them in when not in use.
One of the pouches I must admit is now useless as it unlocks the car still. Might just be a faulty item as the review's were pretty good.
Was looking for a visual deterrent like a steering lock, dashboard club or the like.
Couldnt really find anything which offers more than a few minutes resistance.

Most of these visual deterrents are pretty useless and they even have videos on youtube to disable them. Now bearing in mind that thieves are many steps ahead, at best it delays them seconds.

Exactly! Pretty useless to stop the professional but was just trying to add an " inconvenience "  for a little peace of mind really.
I have considered one of those folding drive posts for the times I'm away on holidays etc.

Tested my 2 pouches and they worked fine.
The John Paul Gaultter tin failed but when lined with tin foil it passed the test. Just got to label it otherwise it could be dumped in the recycle bin.  :'(

That's good then,
I will have to order 2 new pouches to be safe.

The Faraday Pouch is now obsolete if these Game Boy Devices enter this country which they undoubtedly will. it can be used to unlock modern Kia, Hyundai and Mitsubishi models within just a minute.

Wow!!!
I think I'm gonna get one of those lockable folding parking posts for my drive. Been mulling it over for a while now, especially with a holiday booked.

If your spending thousands on a car get a tracker put on it, a small amount to pay with a monthly subscription, the highest probability of recovering a car that's been stolen :-)

Not sure i would want a car back that some low life had stolen you know
The magic of being the first and only person to have driven the car since it left the showroom would diminish some.
If a thief really wants my car, they will get it no matter what I do. But the thought of them disabling a parking post, making noise and alerting my neighbours appeals a bit.

I completely agree with you about not wanting the car returned after some scrote stole and abused it. In that situation I would prefer to claim on our car/Gap insurance.
