Post by: jonny mac on November 15, 2015, 19:16:56
regarding towing, on my santa fe I have a vin plate with the same kg numbers as this chassis plate I found on google below:

PLEASE NOTE, THIS IS NOT MY CHASSIS CODE OR MY VIN PLATE! I have found this on google and using it for reference as it appeared on goggle images:

what I want to know is the following:

2550kg
4750kg
1350kg
1450kg

what do they all mean? I have a 7 seat santa fe, I want to use it to tow my track car to practice days, the track car weighs 1400kg,

is 2550kg the max towing capacity? so I'd be ok with a 600kg trailer etc?

i'll be doing my towing license shortly but just want to know what all the numbers mean

1350 kg is front axle maximum load
1450 kg is rear axle maximum load
2550 kg is the maximum vehicle weight
4750 kg is the maximum train weight, ie car + trailer

The car can tow a 2200 kg trailer

If you passed your driving test before 1997, you'll have BE on your licence allowing you to tow a 3500 kg trailer with a 3500 kg vehicle.

If you passed your test in, or after 1997, you'll only have B on your licence which restricts the total of car and trailer to 3500 kg, that's using plated weights not actuals - so on a B licence that Santa Fe can only tow 950 kg plated weight.

You can take a +E towing test to upgrade your licence to BE.
